About Us

Sydney Dizziness Clinic is an extension of the well-established Canberra Dizziness Clinic, Australia’s first vestibular physician-led clinic, founded in 2017. Over the past eight years, the Canberra clinic has provided expert care for patients with dizziness, vertigo, and imbalance, receiving referrals from medical and allied health professionals across the Canberra and Riverina regions.

From August 2025, Sydney Dizziness Clinic will offer the same trusted and specialised approach to patients in Sydney, continuing our commitment to accurate diagnosis and effective management of vestibular disorders.

Dr. Sandeep Rajagopal
(MBBS, MS (ENT), MRCS, MRCGP, FRACGP)
Vestibular Physician

Dr Sandeep is the founder and owner of Canberra Dizziness Clinic — Australia’s first vestibular physician-led dizziness clinic. With a background in ENT, audiovestibular medicine, and general practice, he brings a uniquely comprehensive perspective to the diagnosis and management of balance disorders.

He has a special interest in paediatric dizziness and recently completed the Paediatric Vestibular Course at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool, UK. He is also pursuing a PhD at the Australian National University, investigating the pathophysiology of visually induced dizziness in vestibular migraine.

Having worked full time as a vestibular physician for the past six years, Dr Sandeep has assessed and managed over 650 new patients with dizziness each year. His commitment to advancing vestibular care now extends to Sydney, where he will offer the same high-quality, evidence-based service to patients through the newly established Sydney Dizziness Clinic.

Why See a Vestibular Physician for Your Dizziness?

What is a Vestibular Physician?

A vestibular physician is a doctor specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders affecting balance, dizziness, vertigo, and motion sensitivity. These problems often originate from the vestibular system, which includes parts of the inner ear and brain that control balance and spatial orientation.

What Symptoms and Conditions Do They Treat?

Vestibular physicians commonly help with symptoms illustrated above.

They are experts in managing conditions like vestibular migraine, Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness (PPPD), bilateral vestibulopathy, Ménière’s disease, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), neuronitis (labrynthitis) and more.

What Makes Their Approach Different?

Vestibular medicine is unique. It overlaps with neurology, otolaryngology (ENT), ophthalmology, physiotherapy, and psychiatry. Many causes of dizziness involve several body systems. A vestibular physician takes a comprehensive, integrated approach that avoids misdiagnosis and ensures no aspect of the problem is missed.

Why Are Dizziness Symptoms Hard to Diagnose?

Dizziness and imbalance are among the most common, but least understood, symptoms in medicine. Many patients see multiple specialists—cardiologists, neurologists, ENTs, psychologists—without answers. Vestibular physicians are specifically trained to untangle this complexity and find the root cause.

Do I Need a Referral?

No, you can make an appointment directly. We do appreciate a referral letter or health summary to help us understand your medical history and medications, but it is not required. Most patients are referred by GPs, neurologists, ENT surgeons, physiotherapists, or audiologists, but about one in five self-refer via the internet or by word of mouth.

Is This a New Model in Australia?

Yes. Although dedicated vestibular physician services are common in the UK and parts of Europe, Australia’s first clinic, the Canberra Dizziness Clinic, opened in 2017. That clinic now sees over 670 new patients each year, and more than 4,000 patients have been treated since its founding. Sydney Vertigo & Imbalance Clinic is a new service based on this proven model.

Will I Need Other Treatments?

Your treatment is tailored to your needs. Options may include vestibular rehabilitation exercises, medication, cognitive strategies, and lifestyle changes. Occasionally, your vestibular physician will coordinate with physiotherapists or other specialists as needed.
